Recent Past: Berry Chocolate Mousse Cake

IMG_1469

I made this cake over a year ago while going through a mousse cake phase. It was for my boss's inlaw's birthday and I was asked to do a cake before the end of my shift. At the time I was obsessed with a Japanese cakes book with beautiful, informative step by step guides (I have a confession to make, I can't read Japanese kanji, so I have to rely on these pictures and use my own recipes!)

Recent Past: "Salutations Feline" Macarons

IMG_2048

So obviously this cat goes by a different name (however, I think we all know who she is!). I got the inspiration to make these from I <3 Baking and one boring, lonely Friday night, with nothing better to do I whipped up a batch for my amusement. I have to admit, eating them makes me tear up a bit...

Recent Past: Faery Birthday Cake

IMG_2163
Fantasy Faery Cake

This is a more recent cake I was commissioned to do over the summer. The request was for a children's birthday cake involving fairies. Pink was a big no-no, and to tell you the truth, a bit daunting to make anything fairy related without using that particular colour. But prevail I did and the result was this whimsical three tiered creation! In addition to the cake, the customer wanted some type of treat to go with the favours. I suggested to her to go with the decorated macarons versus cupcakes, as cake on cake might have been a bit much.

Kawaii Eats at the Baker's Market

postcard2011

UPDATE!: These are the days I'll be selling goodies!!!

October 1st
October 15th
October 29th (Halloween Special!)
November 12th
November 26th
December 10th

So I am very excited after the great success that Bake for the Quake was for Kawaii Eats, it's time to venture onto bigger projects. Every Saturday from October 1st to December 10th, Vancouver's Baker's Market will be held at the Moberly Arts and Cultural Centre from 11 am to 3 pm. As this is a fairly new endevour for myself, I'll be selling my baked goodies every other week starting October 1st. Some of the things I will be offering are my decorated macarons, Kinako (roasted soybean) red bean chiffon cakes, green tea chiffon cakes, shortbread cookies, and scones. Also, there's a separate surprise every time I'm at a stall there as I'll be doing special "Character macarons" for fun! It's a different one every time so be sure you're there as often as possible! ;) I'll be announcing the dates here on my blog for you to keep track. Looking forward to seeing everyone there! (And just to get the saliva flowing, here's some goodies to look forward too!) :P

As I've mentioned in the previous post, I'm going to be doing some back-dating on older work that I've done in the last year. I thought I might start off with one of my greater accomplishments this year by showing you the results of one year of anticipation, a month of planning, 4 sleepless nights, weight-loss, and a tower carried over the Atlantic ocean from Paris to Vancouver!

FIRST! :P Welcome to Kawaii Eats

So after much procrastination and general ineptness at all things blog related, I figured... why not just jump into it blindly and with not much aesthetic knowledge at all! Anyhoo, first things first, welcome to Kawaii Eats! Making pastries cute, quirky, and overall fun! I must apologize for how heinous this blog looks like since I have not touched html or website related since early university (remember geocities? *shudder*) I promise bounds of improvement in the coming months! I intend to make this a shared experience detailing mainly my pastry exploits, though from time to time I may veer into culinary territory (or share with you an Irish tune or so!)
